The Lobero Associates presents…
The Golden Age of Hollywood Gala
Join us on Saturday evening, April 5, 2014, 6:00 pm for the Lobero Theatre Associates annual fundraiser at The Coral Casino.
Each year, going back through the ages, The Lobero Associates, that venerable group of women who have tirelessly devoted themselves to fundraising efforts for the Lobero Theatre, have hosted a wildly popular event called “Hat’s Off.” This has, traditionally, been a luncheon honoring a great artist who resides in Santa Barbara. Attendees donned their best hats to pay tribute, enjoy lunch in a beautiful venue and have fun. This year, the Lobero Associates have changed course to create an alluring evening event that will be sure to entertain and delight. While hats are out, Hollywood glamour is in…
This year’s glamorous event will feature a three-course supper, dancing, live music, photo booths, and a silent auction. One of the silent auction highlights will include a painting by Jonathan Winters. Did we know that Mr. Winters could paint? Come to the gala and find out…
Old-Hollywood, formal evening attire is encouraged. Mix and mingle with the glitterati during cocktail hour from 6-7 and enjoy the strains of the beautiful harp performed by Rebekah Scogin. A no-host bar will be available throughout the party, however beer and wine will be included with the ticket price. The three-course dinner begins at 7:00 pm with local, organic greens, Point Reyes blue cheese, Asian pears, walnuts, and aged sherry vinaigrette, the entrée is lemon, rosemary-crusted chicken with curried vegetable couscous, and mushroom Madeira stew. Chocolate and salted, caramel tart and coffee and tea will be served for dessert.
Dinner will be accompanied by music performed by saxophonist, Justin Claveria and a trio playing jazz standards. After dinner, Claveria’s band, Invier will perform dance covers. Claveria is a USC graduate of their jazz studies program and has performed with Kenny Loggins, Les McCann, Michael McDonald, The Coasters, and others so the music will be lively and Hollywood-worthy.
The Lobero Associates is committed to supporting the Lobero Theatre’s needs. Their efforts over the years have contributed toward recent renovations to the theatre and they continue to raise funds through events like this for the Foundation's operating budget to support its youth-oriented programs.
Regarding recent renovations to the Lobero Theatre, Encore: Lobero was a $7 million capital campaign undertaken by the Lobero Theatre Foundation Board of Directors for preservation and maintenance work in order to ensure that the Lobero continues as a functioning community resource. Encore: Lobero continues the 140-year tradition of the care and support of the Lobero Theatre from people in the community, including hundreds of donors and all-volunteer Board of Directors.
Lobero Theatre Foundation Board President, Jeff Devine, says, “The Lobero owes a debt of gratitude to so many. To our very generous patrons and the people who faithfully attend Lobero shows. And to our staff and Board of Directors who serve with compassion and an inspiring sense of responsibility. And also to the historical, architectural, engineering, and planning experts who helped us preserve historic and architectural integrity while enhancing performance and audience comfort aspects so the theatre remains viable. We extend our heartfelt thanks.”
Renovations that have been completed at the Lobero Theatre include new seats, interior painting, improved air-flow, expanded restrooms, ADA compliance upgrades, and other elements to make the theatre viable for live performances for many years to come.
