Dear Students,
We are very pleased that you have chosen to spend a month with us.  You will be rotating through 4 hospitals and will interact with all the attending physicians in the division. You are required to know the following information, please let me know if you have questions. It is highly recommended that you print out the Sub-I Success document.

You have been assigned to 4 different locations, one per week.  Kathryn Jansen has sent this to you in her welcome email. 
One of these weeks are split between the VA and Harborview.  Here is the explanation: HMC PURPLE/VA WEEK:  You are on HMC PURPLE Service Monday-Wednesday and at the VA Thursday and Friday.
FIRST DAY All students go to Children’s on your FIRST day of rotation to complete on-boarding separately from UW.  Seattle Children’s CoordinatorSara Fear will be contacting you prior to your rotation. Register for your entire stay not just the 1 week shown in your schedule!

  • Have your current medical school ID on you at ALL times!

  • Hospital Badging:

    • On the first day of your UWMC rotation, check in at room BB-416 and see Sue Allain to get your ID badge for your week at UWMC site.

    • For your Harborview ID Badge, go to 8th floor of Center Tower to the Badging Office to obtain your badge. Your information will be in the system prior to your arrival. If your name is not in the system, please come down to my office and I will give you a form, 7CT-60. 

  • Parking 

    • Most sites are limited on parking: ask our residents about further transportation options or review the following commuting links:

Clerkship Requirements:

  • Please dress in business casual or better during your rotations, but make sure your shoes are comfortable. 

  • You will not be on the call schedule

  • Conferences Wednesday mornings 6:30-8AM in Harborview Medical Center’s Research & Training Building room #117

  • You will not be presenting at conference during your rotation 

  • Contact Nadia Gavrilenko (nadia9@uw.edu; 206-744-2868), at Harborview, the Plastic Surgery Residency Manager, if you are interested in applying to our program

    • If you seek an interview while rotating here at UW, know that by interviewing while here, you forfeit the opportunity to be invited back during the formal interview days; typically those days are both on a Saturdays, typically held in mid-December and again in mid-January.

  • Evaluations are based on:

    • performance and participation in the clinic and the O/R

    • fund of knowledge demonstrated in the O/R and outpatient clinics

    • eagerness to learn/participate

    • Evaluation form requests should be sent directly to Dr. Alexander Gougoutas, Plastic Surgery Medical Student Director (alexgo@uw.edu)
