Recognize the basic principles and differences in pediatric dentistry and how these differences affect several dental procedure







Knowledge

  • Describe morphological differences between primary and permanent teeth.

  • List the steps of different cavity design and restoration

  • List definitions, indications and contraindications of pulpotomy.

  • Discuss indications and contraindications of band and loop space maintainer.

  • Identify the component of comprehensive dental examination of a child patient

  • Describe some of the popular theories in psychological development of the child patient (e.g. learning theory) and different behavior techniques

  • Define the mechanism of dental caries development including diet and bacterial roles

  • Identify the main preventive techniques including OHI, fluoride, diet evaluation and fissure sealant.






























































































Develop the cognitive and analyzing skills of the student by adapting knowledge and modifying dental procedures according to different clinical situations







Cognitive Skills

  • Correlate the morphological differences between primary and permanent teeth to cavity design and restorations of primary teeth.

  • Evaluate the different diagnostic and clinical data before formulating a comprehensive sequential treatment plan.

  • Select proper behavior guidance technique according to child reaction.

  • Design a specific prevention plan according to specific need of each child patient

  • Recognize patient abuse and/or neglect.


















































































Develop the manual dexterity ,skills, and attitude essential to perform a comprehensive, preventive and therapeutic oral health care for children







Psychomotor

  • Prepare different cavity design and restorations for primary dentition.

  • Perform formocresol pulpotomy on extracted primary teeth or acrylic teeth with red wax pulp.

  • Construct band and loop space maintainer.

  • Design a comprehensive treatment plan using thorough clinical examination and proper diagnostic tests.

  • Apply psychosocial and behavioral principles in patient-centered health care.

  • Implement different preventive procedures for pediatric dental patients
