SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES

FELLOWSHIP – led by Bill & Elaine Swiss.  The class is studying Max Lucado’s “God’s Story, Your Story”. New members and visitors are welcome to join in.  The class meets in Fellow Ship Hall, located near the Sanctuary.
JOHN WESLEY – led by Barbara Hudson. The class is studying “The book of Galatians”.  Study guides are available.
NOMADS’ – Nomad’s class will be studying “The End of Me” DVD series by Kyle Idleman.  In this lesson we will explore the paths that lead us to Jesus.   As we come to the end of ourselves we realize that we aren’t strong enough, smart enough or talented enough to navigate life on our own.  That is when we are in the best position to be used by God.
SEEKERS – The Seekers class is studying the "AHA" series by Kyle Idleman.  The study is a DVD assisted study centered around the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15.  "AHA" is an acronym for Awakening, Honesty, & Action.  All are invited to join.
LIFE WITH GOD - Young Adult/College Age Sunday School Class.  It is for single or married adults, college age into their 20’s.  As we start out we will do a video/discussion relative to Christian life, in a sometime confusing world.  The class will be dynamic and those attending can shape it to the desires of the group. The discussions will initially be led by Pastor Lee.  The class meets in the former Nomads room of the Activity Center. If you are not involved in a Sunday School class and you are college age or a young adult, come join us.
YOUTH - Join us in the Youth Room as we begin our 6 week series on Woodlawn (the movie). We will learn about teamwork, race divisions, student leadership and how to make change with the help of God.
CHILDREN – The curriculum used for Nursery, PreK-5th Grade is “Planting Faith, Growing Faith”. All classrooms are accessed from the hallway by the church office.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those

Who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Congregation of the First United Methodist Church is to continue to be a committed fellowship of disciples sharing the love of God through Jesus Christ and furnishing a place of Christian worship, programs, services and facilities for its members and the people of the Johnson City area.
Teddy Bear Ministry

You are invited to hold a bear during joys and concerns and then take it and give it to someone who needs a word of encouragement, healing, or up-lifting. We ask that you do not take one for yourself. We also welcome bears that you would like to donate. They don’t have to be new. We are able to clean most “old” bears.
*********************************************************************

We are in need of adding a nursery worker on staff.

If you are interested in the staff position, please call Ronnie Birck at the church office (830)868-7414.

Hymn of Praise Marching to Zion” UMH #733

Prayer of Confession BOW #486
O Lord God, the watchers of Zion have called peace, peace, when there was no peace.

Wherefore have you so long withheld from us the influence of your Holy Spirit?

Why have you hardened our hearts?

It is because we have honored you with our lips, when our hearts were far from you.

Return again to us, O Lord God, and pardon this iniquity of your servants.

Cause your face to shine upon us, and we shall be saved.

O visit us with your salvation.

Raise up sons and daughters from Abraham and Sarah, and grant that there might come a mighty shaking of dry bones among us, and a great ingathering of souls.

Be pleased to grant that the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ may be built up; that all nations and kindreds and tongues and peoples might be brought to the knowledge of the truth, and we at last meet around your throne, and join in celebrating your praises. Amen.

(MARIA STEWARD, AFRICAN AMERICAN, U.S.A., 19TH CENT., ALT.)
(A Time of Quiet Reflection)

Words of Assurance
The Lord God is merciful and gracious, endlessly patient, loving, and true, showing mercy to thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin, and granting pardon. Amen.

Today’s Scripture

Common English Bible

Isaiah 12
1You will say on that day:
“I thank you, Lord.
Though you were angry with me,
    your anger turned away and you comforted me.
God is indeed my salvation;
    I will trust and won’t be afraid.
Yah, the Lord, is my strength and my shield;
    he has become my salvation.”

You will draw water with joy from the springs of salvation.
And you will say on that day:
“Thank the Lord; call on God’s name;
    proclaim God’s deeds among the peoples;
    declare that God’s name is exalted.
Sing to the Lord, who has done glorious things;
    proclaim this throughout all the earth.”
Shout and sing for joy, city of Zion,
    because the holy one of Israel is great among you.
