Students who received 76 grades are admitted to final module control. For individual work 6 marks are added.



Introduction
The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is being implemented at the Dentistry Faculty (2009). According to the regulations of the ministry of Health care of Ukraine, the modular credit transfer system and modular rating assessment system being introduced in Ukraine are congruent with the ECTS.

The content of the curriculum on the third year ofstudies includes 9 credits (according to ECTS) or 270 hours, 30 hours are envisaged for lectures, 150 hours for practical classes and 90 hours for independent study.

The content of the curriculum and syllabus is defined by principles and:


  • is based on international levels of proficiency;

  • matches national qualification levels of achievement;

  • has clearly and flexibly formulated objectives and outcomes;

  • is based on professional and academic skills;

  • covers professional and academic content (areas of subject knowlegde); situational content and pragmatic content / necessary practical and useful skills;

  • takes into account the students backgrounds and their studies and target needs;

  • is modular in its organization.

The teaching material of the V semester is divided into 2 thematical modules. The teaching objectives of the thematical module.

No 1. „Examination of the dental patient” envisage the learning of modern methods of diagnosis of dental diseases, theory and practical skills in interpreting the obtained data in making clinical diagnosis. Besides, the dental students gain profocoency in dental anaesthesia, dental intensive care root canal treatment, tooth extraction, pain medication etc.

The teachinf objectives of the thematical module No 2 „Dental caries and non-caries lesions of teeth” envisage the learning of causes of occurrence and developmental mechanisms of dental hard tissie lesions of different origin. The dental students learn to classify dental hard tissue pathologies, clinical manifestations and course of discase, indications as to applying different methods of treatment, peculiarities of surgical treatment, cavity preparation, fillings of the dental hard tissues damaged by dental caries, as well as dental health basics (preventive measures and remineralization therapy of dental caries).

he Guide for Practical Classes on Therapeutic Dentistry includes: short characteristic of the theme for each lesson; control questions of the material studied test assignments and situation − based tasks as well as reference literature. The students are awarded credits for each module and at the end of the course they are awarded credits for the subjects they learnt.
