Eye Oral Quiz Key

Students will have ____ seconds to verbally explain & identify (on a model) the structures of the eye & their functions. Students will also identify the 3 tunics of the eye.

Iris

Colored portion of the eye

Ciliary Bodies

Smooth muscles that attach to the iris & control the shape of the pupil; make the aqueous humor

Pupil

Hole in iris to allow light to enter the posterior chamber of the eye.

Aqueous Humor

Watery fluid that nourishes the anterior chamber of the eye & gives the cornea it’s shape.

Lens

Magnifies & focuses the image onto the retina

Suspensory ligaments

Hold the lens in place.

Retina

Inner most layer of the eye – the sensory tunic, contains rods & cones

Rods

Allow for black/white vision & peripheral vision

Cones

Allow for color vision

Vitreous Humor

Gel-like fluid that nourishes the posterior chamber of the eye & holds the retina in place.

Fovea Centralis

Spot on the retina that has only cones, no rods.

Optic nerve

For vision

Optic Disc

Blind spot, where the optic nerve exits the back of the eye.
