Pre-Op
Prior to appointment:

  • Use prescribed toothpaste for 2 weeks (the longer, the better), prior to appointment, this will help with sensitivity during treatment.

  • Take 800mg of ibuprofen (if medical history allows or Tylenol 500mg), 1 hour prior to appointment, this will decrease sensitivity during and after treatment.

What to expect during treatment:

  • An initial shade will be recorded.

  • Your gingiva (gums) will be completely isolated with a rubber dam gel.

  • Cheek retractors will be used to fully expose your teeth.

  • A professional strength whitening solution will be applied to your teeth.

  • 3-4 cycles of whitening solution will be applied in 15 minute intervals.

  • The whitening solution will be removed, along with the rubber dam and cheek retractors.

  • A final shade will be recorded.

What to expect after treatment:

  • Post operative sensitivity and/or throbbing may occur.

  • Avoid cold or hot water/food for 24 hours, as this may increase any sensitivity.

  • Continue using prescription toothpaste and/or Sensodyne toothpaste until sensitivity decreases.

  • To keep your smile bright long-term, avoid drinking dark liquids (coffee, tea, wine, cola), and dark foods (berries, prunes), to prevent external staining on teeth.

  • Keep smiling to expose your pearly whites!

In-office bleaching is not recommended for those with extremely sensitive teeth. Dentist approval needed to move forward with treatment. Not recommended for those with active decay or infection. The number of cycles applied will depend on individual case. Individual results may vary.
