“The task of the church is not to develop its own programs but to respond to the mission of God, participating in that mission. We can recover the essence of the mission of the church as understood within the concept ofMissio Dei, an expression that says mission derives from the very nature of God, and the missionary initiative comes from God alone. God invites persons and churches to participate in God's initiative. This response is expressed through commitment and seeking God's guidance in the fulfillment of that mission.” (Baptist World Alliance, July 2012)
Dear Key Church Leader,
You are receiving this letter because in some important ways you are helping our church recover the essence of our Missio Dei (We are on a mission from God!). The component pieces are in place and we are prepared as a people to announce to our community who we are and what God is calling us to do. Fall Harvest 2012 is designed to do just that. In order to accomplish this we have set several goals for the first Sunday in October 2012:
Publicize to the community that we are a “Missional Church”
Celebrate recent accomplishments
Accept the challenge for future missional opportunities
In order to accomplish these goals we need a plan. Below is a working draft of the plan I am using to ensure that we as a church can meet these goals on time. Please look it over to get a sense of the scope of the upcoming Fall Harvest 2012.
PoA&M = Plan of Action and Milestones
ACTION'>ACTION = Intentional movement of thought or body to accomplish a given objective.
COG = Cognizant knowledgeable of something especially through personal experience.
MILESTONE = Milestones are constructed to providereference pointsalong the road. This can be used to reassuretravelersthat the proper path is being followed, and to indicate eitherdistancetravelled or the remaining distance to a destination.
% COMPLETED/NOTES = Periodic updates to track and adjust (if necessary) the overall progression of the plan.
