Hair transplantation

It is the most commonly done cosmetic procedure. It is done to solve the problem of baldness completely. Hair transplantation is a minimally invasive surgical technique, without any side effects. Grafts containing hair follicles that are genetically resistant to balding, like the back of the head, are transplanted to the area of baldness.

Hair transplantation can also be done to restore eyebrows, beard hair, chest hair, pubic hair. Dr Sathishchandra and his team have satisfied thousands of clients till date at very reasonable cost, and patients come to him from all over south india and middle east.

The main difference between a hair transplant procedure and any other hair restoration solution is the permanence and results. A hair transplant procedure provides results that look and feel so natural, that no one should be able to tellif one has had the procedure done. Today, hair transplant surgeons make use of different techniques to extract and transplant large numbers of hair follicles.

There are two methods for hair transplantation

FUT (Follicular unit hair transplantation) / Strip Method

FUE (Follicular unit extraction)

FUT (Follicular unit hair transplantation)- FUT is a procedure where grafts are taken en mass in a piece of strip of hair bearing skin from donor area. The gap after removing the strip in the donor area is closed by stitches or staples.

The only advantage of this method is to cover wider areas as it gives scope for obtaining more number of grafts in a single session. FUT has its own disadvantages. Stitches leave a scar in the donor area and therefore short hairstyles may not be possible as the scar will be visible. Blood loss is more compared to FUE. Post- operative pain and discomfort is usually encountered.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)- At FLAUNT, we follow this method. This procedure is done under local anaesthesia, and it is practically pain free postoperatively.

Using a tiny 1mm instrument, the surgeon will remove individual follicular units from the patients scalp. Follicular units are hair groups containing 1,2,3 or 4 hairs together. The device makes a tiny incision to isolate the graft. The graft is then extracted directly from the scalp, and then prepared for placement by a team of skilled assistants. Working with high power microscopes, these trained assistants isolate, prepare and ensure that the follicular grafts remain in optimal condition. Follicular units are arranged into groups depending on the number of hairs contained within each follicle. The placement of these follicular units is what sets the stage for FLAUNTs natural looking results and artistic difference.

Restored hair will grow in the same fashion as one’s native hair. Approximately 3 months after the procedurenew hair begins to grow. Around 6 months later patient shall notice significant regrowth. The patients hair (native and transplanted) will continue to grow naturally. Patient can join his duty from the very next day of hair transplant procedure.

Hair Loss Male and female hair loss

Causes for hair loss

Classification of male pattern baldness

Male and female hair loss- Hair grows from the follicle, underneath the skin. The hair is fed by blood vessels at the base of the follicle. Between starting to grow and falling out years later, each hair passes through 4 stages: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen. Each hair is at a different stage of growth cycle.

Anagen (Growing Phase)

The growing phase lasts two to seven years and determines length of our hair.

Catagen (Transition Phase)

This is the transitional stage that lasts about 10 days. The hair follicle shrinks and detaches from the dermal papilla.

Telogen( Resting Phase)

This is the resting phase which lasts around 3 months. Around 10 – 15% of hairs are in this phase.

Exogen (New hair Phase)

This is part of the resting phase where the old hair sheds and a new hair continues to grow. Approximately 50 to 150 hairs can fall out daily, this is considered to be normal hair shedding.

Causes for hair loss

Most common cause of hair loss in men is androgenetical alopecia or Male Pattern Baldness. This occurs in men whose scalp hair follicles are genetically susceptible to the effects of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a male hormone. These susceptible follicles are located on the front and top of the scalp. Testesterone is a hormone responsible for secondary sex characteristics in men and there is an enzyme 5-αreductase which converts testosterone into DHT. It is this DHT which causes hairloss in men with genetically predisposed follicles.

Hairloss common in women, too

The idea that thinning hair is a guy problem is a simply wrong. 40% of people who experience temporary or long term hair loss are women. Some have hair that is thinning all over, while others see the centre part gradually widen. Still others develop distinct baldness at the crown of the head. Unlike men, women rarely develop a receding front hairline.

Causes for hairloss in women are Polycystic ovaries, Alopecia Areata, Ringworm infestation, Childbirth, Crashdiets, Tight hairstyles, Stress.

Hair Restoration

Treatment for hairfall

Medical cyclical therapy – It is a treatment which prevent hair fall by inducing new hair growth. It has no side effects and it can be done in minimum medication cost. Cyclical medical therapy controls hair fall in 2 months and improves hair growth in 4 months. It is an innovative and affordable hair growth therapy and its treatment procedure is broadly tested and clinically proven. It consists of oral formulationthat mostly contain micro-nutrients needed for good healthy hair growth without adding any hormones. The cyclical hair therapy activates hair follicles, ensures growth, strengthens roots and protects them from damage.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP therapy)– PRP therapy is used in hair restoration for natural looking results. With a thin needle, your own platelet-rich plasma is injected into the scalp. Then the growth factors in the blood cells do their job and hair growth is naturally stimulated. It is non-surgical, natural, alternative medical procedure used for the treatment of hair loss or hair thinning. It is suitable for both men and women. This treatment uses patients own blood.

Low Level Laser therapy–This technique applies non-invasive infrared light to the scalp, stimulating hair growth. This treatment is sometimes called soft laser, due to lack of heat involved. It is one of the most successive therapies to cure hair loss. It is usually used to treat genetic form of hair loss common in men and women.
