Columbus, OH -- Fresh A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to present Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, Revelations in Recovery the multimedia exhibition at the gallery featuring the work of Matt Mascaro. An opening reception with the artist will take place on Wednesday June 18, 2008 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm. A gallery hop reception will take place on Saturday July 5, 6:00pm - 9:00pm at Fresh A.I.R. Matt Mascaro is a multi-media artist residing in Los Angeles, presently located in Columbus (43215) for the graduate MFA program at The Ohio State University. Matt works primarily in film and video. The current focus of Goodbye Pork Pie Hat is a retrospective on Matt's artwork in his recovery from drug and alcohol addiction and depression. This will be a multimedia exhibition including narrative video, documentary video, still photography and photographic sculpture.
P.2 Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, Revelations in Recovery by Matt Mascaro Matt Mascaro moved to Los Angeles in 1998 in pursuit of sobriety and music with his punk band The Pinks, and the traditional idioms of the movement, and eventually became obsessed with visual media in film and photography, and their social and cultural ramifications. Beginning with photographic studies in portraiture of people in his neighborhood; transvestite prostitutes, exotic dancers, clowns, etc. he graduated in to videography.
As a photographer/videographer Matt has enjoyed successful exhibitions in and around Los Angeles and San Francisco. His work has been published by RotoVision Press and has been collected by Hollywood's heavyweight producer Laurence Mark, Warhol litho dealer Richard Wolfryd, among others.
Matt's sobriety date is June 9, 1998.
