DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

REGISTRAR AND SENIOR REGISTRAR (SUB-SPECIALTY) CONTRACT POSTS FOR ENTRY IN 2016/2017

The Western Cape Department of Health invites all qualified Medical/Dental Practitioners, to apply for the following available opportunities within the below-mentioned institutions.


Remuneration package: Registrar (Medical/Dental): R637 845 per annum; Senior Registrar (Medical/Dental): R859 086 per annum (A portion of the package may be structured according to the individuals’ personal needs). It will be expected of the successful candidate to participate in a system of remunerated commuted overtime.


Consideration will be given to existing employees who are already on higher salary packages to retain their existing salary position, as personal. As such they are entitled to receive pay progression.



  1. REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSTS:

    1. Minimum Educational Qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Practitioner/Dentist or Medical/Dental Specialist in a general or Sub-specialty.

    2. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner/Dentist or Medical/Dental Specialist in a general or sub-speciality. Candidates (Specialist and Specialists [sub-specialty]) who are deemed as “registrable” may also apply. The appointment of successful applicants will only be effected once proof of application for registration or the proof of registration is provided.

    3. Other: Registrars will be required to register as postgraduate students with the University of Stellenbosch/University of Cape Town/University of the Western Cape as applicable according to the requirements for the discipline in the yearbook and guidelines • All applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents • Proficiency in at least two of the languages of the Western Cape • A valid driver’s licence.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology, GSH includes posts/rotations at New Somerset Hospital Mowbray Maternity Hospital and George Regional Hospital.

Requirements: Valid Driver’s licence (Code B/EB) • Each Registrar will be required to work in rural Regional FPS Mortuary for at least 3 months for every year of training • Commitment to undertake and complete the postgraduate diploma in Forensic medicine.

Previous Forensic Pathology Experience and Diploma in Forensic Pathology.

APPOINTMENT CONDITIONS AND ROTATION:


Appointment of Registrars will be for a maximum contract period of 4 years (or 5, dependent on the minimum requirements of the post). It may become neces- sary to second/transfer staff to another hospital/institution during their period of training, in which case affected staff will be consulted prior to any decision being implemented. Registrars will function across health facilities, as per an agreed programme. If candidates are willing to accept placement particularly at our training institutions located in a rural setting, it will be an added recommendation. Should registration with the HEI as a student be discontinued for any reason the appointment as a Registrar also discontinues.

NOTES:


  1. Applicants must indicate whether they have bursary obligations.

  2. Applications must be forwarded to the relevant response addresses above and must consist of a Z83 (obtainable from any Government institution) contain- ing full particulars and a Curriculum Vitae, plus three referee reports not older than six months.

  3. Certified copies of qualifications must be submitted, together with proof of academic records. Proof of current registration with the HPCSA or proof of appli- cation to register as well as payment made must also be submitted.

  4. Candidates applying for posts in more than one Clinical Department must please state order of preference.

  5. As directed by the Department of Public Service & Administration, applicants must note that further reference checks will be conducted once they are short-listed and that their appointment is subject to positive outcomes on these checks, which include security clearance, qualification verification, criminal records, credit records and previous employment.
