sunnism versus cults and sects

Also add: brief history of each movement, and psychology behind them, bearing in mind ‘discourse of weakness’ and ‘discourse of strength’.

Also comment on potential agenda of each movement.

The sectarian struggle is secretly referred to, and the power struggle is openly waged, but the core of the problem is which interpretation of Islamic living do people think is more conducive to the success and progress of the Islamic community, i.e. the sectarian issue. This battle has been continuing on and off in a hidden manner throughout the duration of the Islamic community’s existence in Britain, and it is the contention of the Sunni Awareness Initiative that unless the issue is confronted directly, a secret cold war, and also possibly violent conflict may begin to erupt in small pockets in and around Britain, until the battle for supremacy is won, and none from the outside of the community will have any understanding of why the conflict takes place. Our answer: since the colonial period, sectarian ideologies emerged and no effort was made to clarify the boundaries of religious identity so that every individual involved in this community was clearly aware of the political and religious differences that separated them, yet they continued to bark at each other through debates and subtle literary warfare, based on hidden perceptions/assumptions of the beliefs of the other, and the issue was not confronted academically, e.g. we are Sunni, we operate this way, you are Deobandi, you operate this way, etc.Nobody was wise enough to just simply lay out the facts in a clear manner and begin to officially allocate religious identities based upon agreed upon and academically verified statements of fact. All that Islamic communities did was to secretly fester and accumulate waste energy from sectarian tensions based on perceptions/assumption and always to spite the other, never to solve the problem; this is why, according to Sunni Awareness Initiative, the problems continue to persist and no tangible solution towards progress appears visible.

The purpose of the ‘Anti Cult Activist’ Division of SAI, and this written project called ‘Sunnism Versus Cults and Sects’ is a strategic one. It identifies that significant progress, in all spheres, is halted by a presence of a cancerous group within the body of Islam, who pursue activity that is anything but beneficial, who insist their work is divinely ordained. It would be accurate to label them as ‘hypocrites’. People like this exist in every sphere in every manner of organisation/project, but their presence within Islam is most severe, as they are nearly impossible to detect. Today, this group pretends to defend the boundaries of Islam from ‘imposters’ and ‘blasphemers’, and takes a near obsessive interest in the science of ‘heresiography’, labelling individuals deemed ‘deviant’ according to the scales of the classical jurists. They also present an obstacle to the growth of scholarly activity in Islam by overly obsessing about the various deviant sects, to an extent that is greater than even the scholars whose job it was to actually deal with them in history. They call themselves Ahlus Sunnah, and make it their duty to overly obsess with studying the statements of Deoband, Shiism, Wahhabism, etc, and almost never directing their intention to any sort of broader narrative or anything that remotely resembles practical, general or positive teachings. If the direction of Islamic Studies was left to these individuals, people who look to researchers/scholars for direction would only find various ramblings about the blasphemy of this sect or the deviance of that man, their activity is entirely reactionary, and they attempt to divert blame from themselves by insisting that their work is commissioned by God. Besides overly obsessing about perceived ‘blasphemies’/’attacks’ on Islam, by bringing up issues that most people did not know about even when they were new, they rarely ever come close to showing that they have achieved a conclusion. They rarely ever come to the stage that these problems are now closed. People are naïve about these individuals and give them excuses, ‘they are also Muslim’; ‘they are students of knowledge’; ‘they are still growing’; ‘perhaps these problems really are as grave as they suppose’. Each of these excuses is a lie. The truth is that these individuals are devoid of any holistic understanding/experience of Islam, and in order to soothe either a) their weak faith, or b) inferiority complexes, they retreat into a small corner, which they label orthodoxy and then attack people who they make-believe breached proper religious code of conduct. They have ‘ultra-magnified’ certain issues that may have been problems in a bygone age, they insist they are still relevant, and then by jabbing at them constantly, they make believe they are making a difference. Their purpose outwardly seems that it is to defeat these problems, but any individual who sees reality can observe that they have themselves created an issue out of these problems in order that they can perceive themselves as defenders of the faith against ‘deviants’. The truth is that they will never escape from this activity, since their objective is not to overcome their problems, closure is not an objective for them, they have never perceived even the scent of closure, freedom is not their objective, it is foreign to them. In order to put a stop to the corruption and stagnation of the range of contemporary Islamic discourse and to remove the influence of private sociopaths who attempt to hijack the direction of the ship of ‘orthodoxy’ to suit their own egos, this document/project serves as the sole authority on matters related to sectarian issues, so the nature of sectarianism is identified and the real issues are explained simply and succinctly. This document lists not only the main problems which classical, original scholarship took up with aberrant groups and cults, but gives positive advice to the holders of those beliefs, that if they are sincere and wish to operate according to the agendas of Islam, certain beliefs and sectarian attitudes of theirs must be dropped. Pseudo-Heresiographers who fancy themselves as mini versions of Ahmed Rida Khan never come close to this kind of discourse, their version of these issues is most certainly always a) reactionary, b) dismissive and c) overly negative. This opposes the objective of Islamic thought which is uplifting and empowerment of the individual, and pollutes the minds of average believers and burdens them with worry of the illusory ‘other’ that these poor self taught internet students have constructed as a god in their minds. This document not only lists all the problems in one place, so that hypocrites can no longer safely persist in their long-expired academic pursuits by discussing one sect bit by bit at a time when it pleases them, but also extends a hand to those who have been duped by these ideologies, giving them benefit of the doubt and using a draining and soul-stifling discourse, i.e. the ideologies of deviant cults as a form of liberation theory. If anyone starts another random discussion on the evil of this sect or the other, you should silence them and inform them that these issues have already been dealt with by this division of SAI and that they better off with learning more practical information. Lastly, by describing the nature of sectarian ideologies, ignorant youth and also elderly individuals should learn that Sunnism is a broad framework, representing the broad nature of Islamic teachings, and cults are by nature specific and obsessive, especially through studying Deoband, individuals learn through this document that cult agendas can be pursued within the garb of Sunnism, within the disguise of Hanafi law, Ashari theology, and Sufism. This means that preaching about ‘Ala Hazrat’ is no barrier to sectarianism, and still is no guarantee that an individual is Sunnism, the guarantee of Sunnism has always been spiritual understanding and sincerity, this was an element of the real teachers of the past but which a few unfortunate students have completely forgotten. First and foremost, this study serves as an unreserved critique of ‘Sunni-Wahhabis’, who cite the works of classical scholars but who regurgitate their words in a manner befitting Salafism, with the same brainwashed/self-destructive tendencies with which Salafis reproduce their own doctrines, who obsess about things like referencing, formatting and citations, but who could not muster the positivity to give sincere advice to an individual on a matter that genuinely affected him.

It could be said Aisha is portrayed by the Shiite propagandists as a military combatant, they warp history to cover their trails, and they blame the Sahaba for evil that they perpetrated themselves. This is a common trait of hypocrites.

-Hypocrites communicate based on recorded dogma, they are incapable of a wide range of thought/ open mindedness. Communicating to them to try and make them understand a broader concept is an act of futility.

- Hypocrites are the largest impediment to problem solving, this is because they possess no scope of empathy, they have no tools to understand larger problems. They can only force pre-recorded solutions on unfortunate individuals who mistakenly turn to them for help.

-A person may be under any amount of problems and this is unnoticed by the hypocrite, who is devoid of any real capability for empathy, they will be unable to help, and will only cite some opinion of a past scholar verbatim.

-Hypocrites, especially religious ones, have developed their own narrative of weakness which they identify with Islam, they justify fatalism and weakness religiously, but this is just to substantiate their own poor life choices.

-They have developed their own narrative of weakness and rigidity based on their subjective experience of life. They have not dealt healthily with certain adversity which we all face, and as a result have built a shell around themselves which they refuse to retreat from. Into this shell they pull God, Prophets and revealed books as justification that their particular approach to life’s problems is the real one.

-It is said that during the ‘End of Times’, scholars will be hypocrites. Bearing this in mind, consider how many significant problems go unsolved by those who are responsible when their own scope of discourse is so limited. Whats more, they consider themselves as the only people of significant, meaning that they expect you to sit there politely and wait until they reach a higher level of understanding so that they can help you. One of these individuals could study Islamic books from the age of 20 to the age of 60 and preoccupy himself in this way in an obsessive manner, and he would be just as useless aged 20 as he would when he would be 60, their character would not change, they would still be incomplete human beings.

- Not only are they weak and unable to benefit themselves or others, they pretend only they possess the truth and class as heretics any individual who does not share either their weakness, their misery, or their pathetically limited intellectual scope.

-For this reason they are a cancer on the face of Islam, many people trust them as if they were people of genuine merit and few notice that they use Islam as a cover for their own weakness and a tool for illusory power.

- Many people get pulled into thinking and acting like the hypocrites, considering their own limited view of religion to be the ‘orthodox’ one, this is a huge mistake. The truth is, they preach a narrow view of reality because that is the one they have caged themselves within, and of course they will try to justify this religiously. Do not try and empathise with these individuals when you meet them on the internet or on forums. This is because you could be speaking the exact same language as them, citing the same books, agreeing with the same argument, even empathising with their conditions in your heart, which is another weakness, but they still reject the truth when YOU say it, because they sense you do not cage yourself in the same niche that they do, and they fool themselves and others into thinking they are part of the saved sect and of high standing.

- Whats more, they identify any expression of freedom as an act of evil and opposition to their self invented God (“Have you seen the one who took his own whims/inhibitions as a God?”). These internally weak parasites parade as religious students and readily crowd among those pirs/shaykhs and especially muftis, who they take as exemplars, not of Muhammad the man or his natural living pattern, but of a hyper-religious lifestyle that they call Islam, and which they have self invented as an escape from real life. Since they are not really believers, they find it impossible to live so unnaturally on their own, they need a cult leader who can ideologically justify their self destructive lifestyle. Thus they must crowd around their leaders, men with similar inferiority complexes leading them towards becoming tyrannical and controlling others.

-These weak, parasitical followers of sub-human living patterns, and their similarly weak and power-hungry leaders are two halves of the key problem that pollutes modern Sunnism. All problems persist because of the presence of cults, and cults consist of internally weak individuals who rely on each other for self gratification. Here we see the follower and the leader both combine to create a frustrating situation. Just in the same way presence of extreme opposites in all situations leads to imbalance and chaos, cults and deviant sects, and those who make it their role to propagate information against them, both contribute to perpetuate a stalemate situation. Where there is a Deobandi, you will find a similarly obsessed Barelvi individual perpetuating a cycle of constant conflict, this is nothing but an illusory battle, one which was dealt with long ago, but since both individuals perpetuating the conflict are hypocrites, they need to have this type of engagement otherwise they would have nothing else to do. Where there is a Shiite militant group in the Middle East, you will find a Salafi group using them as fuel for their own activity, etc, and in this way the conflict between illusory opposites perpetuates a situation of confusion and chaos for average believers.

-They are two cogs in a machine of binary opposites, the essential composite of all organised satanic activity.

Why Hypocrites Impede Progress and Problem Solving: An important point about hypocrites:

They consider their research and writing books as equivalent to working for Islam, and they present themselves as such to the people, but all they are doing is usually addressing the most superficial and unnecessary subjects, they are never on the cutting edge of research/innovation, they are too busy writing a pamphlet about why Mr. X is deviant, or gathering hadith about why their method of praying is the best. Such people are devoid of any real imagination and vision, they cannot be called employees of an Islamic agenda or leaders of the community.

They present themselves as leaders and intellectuals to the people, but they are just imitators of knowledge, they deal with what they are comfortable with so you think they are worth something, and they make a living off it. They never think that they need to go back to the drawing board to learn new subjects/concepts, they consider their teaching at the Madrasa to be absolute, they represent nobody but themselves, they do not cater to the modern British Islamic situation or any other, perhaps they would find use in some village in Pakistan, that is the only way they know how to live.

  • These types of individuals will continue on the same path for thirty years and convince themselves and others that this constitutes legitimate service that they should make use of, or that they need.

  • Their perception of their own infallibility means they never research on anything new, they consider themselves holy, and thus by the time they achieve some sort of understanding for themselves, they will have left countless people with wrong understandings and perceptions, which they will not think to go back and fix. As they proceed throughout their lives, they build a deathtrap for themselves and throughout their lives invite others to do the same.

  • Weak minded individuals cluster around these types of scholars and consider them as the ultimate teachers and height of all knowledge.

  • Everyone who considers them as scholars will not learn beyond them.

  • The people will leave the task of organising the affairs of men to scholars who were hypocrites when younger, and people will never consider that these individuals are not of God.

  • With regards to personal life, they are picky, choosy and fussy like women.

  • With regards to work and activism they are lazy and reluctant. This is how the Shia were portrayed by Imam Rida, who complained that they reclined on soft cushions all day and yet still referred to themselves as ‘People of Ali’, just as today there are people with no concern for social justice, only with their own entry into Paradise, and refer to themselves as the ‘Saved Sect’ and the ‘true followers of the way of Muhammad’.

  • Their personal character is empty and stale, they do not portray a healthy range of emotion, they do not possess the characteristics of average men, which is why they resort to niche studies of religion and mysticism, they do not share healthy appreciation of general pleasures such as women/extra curricular activities, etc.

  • A believer is generally the opposite, he has healthy zeal for life and activity, with regards to personal happiness, he is easily pleased with basic things, and he pushes himself when it comes to work, not accepting being lazy or uninspired. Hypocrites are jealous of people like this and purposefully try to alienate him from having influence in religious discussion or discussion about God.

  • It should be widely known that average believers need to strive against hypocrites and find ways to remove their influence from society.

  • Hypocrites are not pleased with simple things in their personal life, and with work they are lazy, they consider it justified that they spend their lives trying to attain some sort of religious experience to enrich their personal life. This is why they are so obsessed about their prayer, clothes, rituals, special litanies, etc, etc. This is because they do not enjoy simplicity of living pattern. They go back and find extravagant examples to follow to make their lives exciting, it is the same as playing dress-up, they have created a fantasy lifestyle and turned Islam into a form of escapism, and turned the Sunna of Muhammad, peace be upon him, into a form of dress-up. Muhammad, peace be upon him, acted and lived how he did out of simplicity and being a natural individual, yet these individuals who claim to be his sincere followers are his opposites, choosing his personal habits because the prevalent norms are too simple for them. They pursue a ‘mystical/religious life’ not out of simple intentions, such as ‘hatred for evil/love of justice’ (“What is religion except hatred for evil and love of Justice?”- Miskhat), but simply as an extension of a hobby/pastime to make their uneventful lives more exciting. This is why their understanding of things is very limited, they learn as much as is needed to pursue the charade.

  • Hypocrites use their extravagant personal habits to look down on others, and consider those who enjoy simpler things as irreligious and sinful for doing so.

  • In this time, their understanding of religion is the most widespread, that it is sinful to enjoy simple things, or it is anti-God, and they pursue God as the origin of their thought, so that people view God as excessively critical and mean-spirited.

  • Hypocrites who hide beneath pretenses of ‘chasing God’ and religiosity are a cancer as they spend their free time that should be spent on productive work roaming in an illusory dream world chasing obscure emotions, their aim is to see dreams and miracles, without which they find ordinary life ‘boring’ and they call this ‘religiosity’/pursuit of the religious life.

  • Anyone who doesn’t care for their fake religious charade and who does not indulge in the same desires is considered evil and irreligious.

  • Hypocrites only act based on devotion/mesmerism, the only religious paradigm within which they operate is that of an obsessive cult, things like tactics and strategy are the furthest things from their mind, real Islamic/religious activity is based on tactics and strategy.

  • Hypocrites live in opposition to the soul. To them, the distinction between Soul and Ego that the average man perceives is unclear. The average man knows that the ego is the ‘lower self’ or nafs that emits negativity and soul-crushing mentalities, that this is to be opposed, and that the soul is the source of positivity and vitality. To hypocrites however, the soul and ego are reversed, rather than releasing the soul’s energy, they repress it in the name of God, and rather than curbing the ego, they allow it to dominate their thought. Are you going to waste your time in trying to show the truth (i.e. of the soul’s energy) to them when they have voluntarily allowed their ego to dominate their thought/actions? That would be a most foolish investment, with very few returns.

  • These people do not achieve half of the experience of life as an average individual, don’t be fooled into choosing them as friends just because you are sincere towards Islam, they do not represent it.

  • If you are wise, you will sense people who take their egos as Gods, and who suppress their souls, and you will separate yourself from those individuals, since, if you are on the truth, your lifestyle is opposite to them, if you treasure your own experience of life, you will know this to be the correct way.

  • They have their own thought, they have their own activities, don’t be deluded into thinking theirs is the true religious life/spiritual life, if you have a larger vision/larger scope of achievement, don’t allow hypocrites to define the nature of YOUR reality, this would be actual polytheism, only your own soul should dictate the nature of how you experience reality.

There is a group of scholars who impede problem solving and activism in Sunnism, leading youth towards extremist groups because of their unjust standards about authority and hermeneutical legitimacy.
