|Specialized rides CeramicSpeed bearings in the hunt for seconds
Specialized teams Omega Pharma – Quick-Step and Astana Pro Team enter a strategic partnership with CeramicSpeed to gain the technological edge that wins modern bike races.
By using CeramicSpeed bearings the riders use fewer watts and ride faster due to reduced friction in the bearings. CeramicSpeed bearings also have a longer lifetime which will reduce the mechanic’s work on the bikes.
"We are glad to welcome CeramicSpeed as our supplier of bottom bracket bearings. It is important for us to be surrounded by companies that push the boundaries in performance. Our aim is to help our riders to be faster and we believe CeramicSpeed will be a good ally to help us reach our goal", says Simone Toccafondi, Road Sports Marketing Manager for Specialized.
The most successful teams this season
Omega Pharma – Quick-Step and Astana Pro Team totally dominated “The five monuments” this spring. Astana claimed back to back solo wins in Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Prior to that, Tom Boonen secured Omega Pharma – Quick-Step’s success by winning the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Although the teams have been dominant this season, seconds still count. Therefore, Specialized and CeramicSpeed are entering this partnership.
“Performance is more important for us and CeramicSpeed than anything else. Therefore, this partnership is a perfect match which can help us achieve our goals. It is important for the team that the riders know they have the best possible equipment available. This has a big effect both physically and mentally. The goal for the riders, the team and our sponsors is to win races and we believe this partnership will help us do so”. Rolf Aldag, Technical Advisor Team Omega Pharma – Quick-Step.
For 2012 and 2013 Specialized teams will be riding CeramicSpeed bottom bracket bearings on all bikes. Selected riders will ride CeramicSpeed Coated bearings which have even lover friction and a longer lifetime them standard CeramicSpeed bearings. CeramicSpeed also have existing sponsorship agreements with Team Saxo Bank and Specialized-lululemon, who are both under the Specialized program.
“The partnership with Specialized gives us valuable visibility in the global bike market, but it also helps drive our technological development. Specialized and their teams will push and inspire us in the development of products which can help save that last second. Feedback and test results from the riders are crucial in the evaluation of any new development”, says Martin Banke, Director CeramicSpeed.
