South Carolina Requirements for Piercing Minors

In accordance with SCDHEC Regulation 61-109 section 802.A-C;



A technician will not perform or offer to perform body piercing upon a person under the age of 18 years, unless the body piercing is performed in the presence of, or as directed by a notarized statement, in writing, by the person’s parent or court-appointed guardian, or if the client is emancipated in accordance with state law.

The facility will verify the age & guardianship by means of state or government issued picture identification.

Body piercing shall not be performed upon a person under the age of 16 unless written approval is obtained from a physician in addition to the above requirements.
