Thick Light Green Plastic Insert (“Egg Shell”) holding Three Rounds of 40mm used in Pouches: #5294, #5298, and #5299.

I believe this is the Early Issue; being Replaced by the Thinner White Plastic Insert (#5297) in the Late 1960s(?).

In the mid-1960s the Army decided that we were showing too much T-shirt with our open-neck Khakis and Fatigues so in their wisdom they decided to give us the ugliest t-shirt ever designed, the “U-NECK”...and here it is!
