Process: Find Employment Using the Skills You Have (Transferable Skills)
WorkSource staff should use labor market information to help job seekers find employment. The Employment and economic information website from LMEA can be used to find employment based on the skills the job seeker currently has. This should be done when a job seeker has known skills and recent experience with an occupation in a particular industry. Skills may transfer to new occupations in new industries.

Process Steps:



  1. Navigate the Employment and economic information website to get to skill sets.

  2. Use Go2WorkSource to identify occupations that use similar skill sets.

  3. Use the Employment and economic information website to find employers by occupation.

  4. Display employers.

Detailed Steps for this Process:

  1. Open your web browser and type the following URL address: https://fortress.wa.gov/esd/employmentdata.

  2. The Employment & economic information website displays.

  3. Select I am: a job seeker (Fig. 1).

  4. Press the Looking for… drop down menu.

  5. Select careers that match my skills (Fig. 2).

  1. The Skills Center page from Go2WorkSource will appear (Fig. 3).

  1. Choose Occupations by Skills.

  2. The O*NET OnLine Skills Search page displays (Fig. 4).

  3. Check the boxes that match the job seeker’s skills and press the Go button at the bottom of the page.

A list of occupations matching the skill sets selected will appear (Fig. 5)

  1. Write down occupations that the job seeker is interested.

  2. Minimize the O*NET screen.

  3. The Employment & economic information website displays.

  4. Select I am: a job seeker (Fig. 6).

  2. Select a county of interest or State of Washington for statewide results.

  4. Select Go to Industry List.
