Welcome Note:




A very warm welcome to all 5th year students participated in Pediatric Dentistry Course (PDS 511). The start of a new academic year is always special and full of energy.  During this course, you will be learning the basic principals in pediatric dentistry. In addition, you will be manage and provide full dental treatment for pediatric patient with the help of our delicate staff. We strongly believe that quality of student learning often related to the quality of courses that we as teachers provide. Our staff has the ability to communicate effectively, share knowledge, respect ideas of others, and bring out the best in students. Furthermore, it is our responsibility to ensure the best possible teaching/learning environment. Finally, we are glad to present to you the pediatric dentistry course syllabus.

What to expect from instructors:



All faculty members are available for any help you may need. We will try to provide all the support you need to foster your professional integrity, critical thinking and problem solving.

  1. Responding to Emails

You can expect a response to email questions and phone calls to me within 24 hours if it is during the week, 48 hours on weekends or holidays. Please use the Q & A forum for course questions, unless your question requires immediacy or privacy. Be aware, I may choose to respond to your text message with an email response.

  1. Replying to Posts on the Discussion Forums

The discussion forum is the heart of our online course. It is where you will submit many of your assignments, and where you will discuss your work with your classmates. All forums are public except the discussion forum that is set for group assignments. Therefore, whatever is posted can be seen by everyone in the course. If you want to send a private message, use email.

  1. Responding to Phone Calls

The telephone is still sometimes the most effective mode for troubleshooting problems related to the course. My phone number, virtual office hour times, and other contact information can be found by clicking on the Instructors’ Contact Information link on our course's home page.





What do instructors expect from you:

We strongly believe that Student learning can be enhanced through appropriate and innovative assessments, relevant and interesting course materials and a high level of student engagement.

It is of great importance that you take our advice and guidance with care. We will provide you with all the tools that you need during the course. It is mandatory to attend the whole series of lectures, labs and clinical sessions designed for you.

As a course director, I will communicate directly with your leader to receive feedback, comments and manage any difficulties during the implementation of the course. Yet, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time if you need any help or have any query.




Blackboard (Online Contents):

This course will be delivered via Blackboard; the online platform used at KAU, where you will interact with your classmates and with your instructors. Within the course Blackboard site, you will access some of the learning materials such as; the syllabus, class discussions, assignments, projects, and quizzes. Follow your course schedule to know the mode (online or face-to-face) by which course activities and assignments will be conducted.

Blackboard is a web-based platform that can be accessed using any web browser. Additional software requirement will be indicated when needed.

Communication Center:



  1. Announcements

The Announcements Forum, linked under the Course Communication Center module on our course's home page, serves as a way for instructors to make announcements within our virtual learning environment. All students are automatically subscribed to this forum and will receive a duplicate email of each message posted within it.

  1. Calendar

The course has a calendar with all scheduled lectures, activities, and assignment due dates. The calendar is a mean of keeping all students on track in meeting course requirements and deadlines. The calendar is found as a link under the communication center in our home page on the Blackboard.

  1. Emails

Emails should be used for private messages only. Therefore, please use the Q & A forum for general course questions, unless your question requires immediacy or privacy. Be aware, I may choose to respond to your text message with an email response.

  1. Q & A Forum

Q & A forum is used to answer and discuss general questions. You should know that this forum is open to public and therefore whatever is posted can be seen by everyone in the course. If you want to send a private message, use email.


  1. Blackboard Collaborate (Web Conferencing)

Throughout the course, I might invite the class to meet with me synchronously via Blackboard Collaborate. Blackboard Collaborate is a synchronous (same time), web-conferencing application that allows us to share a white-board, chat, talk, break-up into groups, and perform other tasks in a live environment. To enter our virtual Blackboard Collaborate Live classroom, simply click on the “Blackboard Collaborate” link under Communication Center on our course home page. You must be inside of our course before clicking on that link because instructor and course information is transferred to Blackboard Collaborate as a way of directing you to our specific classroom.
