- K+ sparing diuretic

- aldosterone blockade


Pharmaceutics
- oral tablet

- liquid


Dose
- 25-100mg/day -> to 200mg/day

Indications
- heart failure

- essential hypertension

- fluid overload

Adverse Effects
- hyperkalaemia

- renal failure

- possible interference with digoxin radioimmunoassays

- gynaecomastia

- GI bleeding

- agranulocytosis

Absorption – good bioavailability

Distribution – 90% protein bound

Metabolism - hepatic

Elimination – renal, t1/2 = 2 hrs



Evidence
-> increased survival in severe CCF when added to ACE inhibitor and loop diuretic
