JOB DESCRIPTION: HEAD OF PROGRAMMES


Bowman Power Group is a world leader in advanced exhaust energy recovery technologies for reciprocating engines, which are the dominant plant for power generation in remote areas, for renewable fuels and for biomass energy applications. We are working with leading engine manufacturers and genset integrators to improve engine efficiency; increasing power output, improve fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.

We are now seeking to recruit a Head of Programmes to join the Engineering and Operations team in our Southampton office. The primary purpose of this role is the delivery of all new product development and customer application projects at Bowman Power. The role will address all programme management activities and work with functional leaders to ensure the processes and personnel required to deliver a portfolio of projects matches the needs of the business.
This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week (Monday to Thursday – 8 hours and Friday – 5 hours).
Key responsibilities

  • Leadership and direct line management of the Project Management team;

  • Developing a programme focused culture to enable cross functional engagement including project review structures, communications, project management tools, team structures/layouts, reward mechanisms etc;

  • Strategic planning and forecasting of project portfolio, including overall project resource planning;

  • Improving project delivery performance;

  • The overall delivery of all development and customer programmes, direct or indirect to this role, in accordance with the objectives and requirements agreed with the Executive Team, adhering to the scope, budget and schedule constraints and managing risk in a pro-active and pre-emptive manner;

  • Utilising and improving Bowman’s existing project management approach, tailoring a fit for purpose and appropriate project controls framework within which to deliver all our programmes;

  • Coordinating all relevant functions across the business to ensure New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Application Introduction (NAI) projects are delivered to the requirements, costs and schedules agreed;

  • Coordination of all resource assignments in collaboration with the heads of the different functions/disciplines.

  • Representing Bowman with customers, suppliers, partners and funding bodies and leading meetings, presentations and other activities as required;

  • Ownership and improvement of, the product lifecycle processes, including: NPI, NAI, change control, project management and product end of life management;

  • Management and reporting of product life cycle and programme Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);

  • Managing stakeholder communications plans to ensure all are kept informed and engaged;

  • Liaison with the Executive Team to assure the overall quality, direction and integrity of the programmes;

  • Alignment with Company Business Management System (BMS) and incorporating applicable processes into the structure, as well as providing input to streamline the BMS to deliver programmes more efficiently;

  • Coordination of ensuring lessons learnt reviews take place and feed into future relevant projects;

  • Deputising for the COO;

  • Other duties as required by the Executive Team


Requirements:

Essential Criteria:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree – in a technical discipline.

  2. Project management qualifications (e.g. Prince 2, APMP or equivalent);

  3. Proven experience of portfolio programme and contract management

  4. Leadership of project managers in a multi-disciplinary, matrix organisation context.

  5. Proven record in delivering to plan NPI and customer facing projects;

  6. Experience in working in a high technology environment incorporating mechanical & electrical products/systems;

  7. Proven ability to develop and implement robust processes, strong analytical ability and a clear thinker;

  8. Strong financial and commercial awareness;

  9. Proactive in seeking continuous improvement and setting/achieving challenging objectives


Desirable Criteria:

  1. Post Graduate qualifications (Masters / MBA)

  2. Knowledge and practical experience of Earned Value Management;

  3. Experience of Power Generation Industry;

  4. Experience of engineering management team & product design.
