If you wish to apply for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship (Research Student Program), you need to select your potential academic supervisor at Utsunomiya University and contact the person you select. Then prepare all the documents below and submit them to your future supervisor as soon as possible.

You must gain the informal consent to admission from a supervisor and submit all the required documents below by Tue, January 8, 2013.

Documents to be submitted to MEXT through Utsunomiya University



  1. Application for MEXT scholarship (duplex printing)

  2. Field of Study and Study Program (duplex printing)

  3. A letter of recommendation written by President or Dean of applicant’s home institution (addressed to the President of Utsunomiya University)

  4. 2 Photos taken within six months prior to the application deadline (4.5 × 3.5 cm photos, headshot, with no hats or other headgear. Write your name and nationality on the back of photos.)

Documents to be submitted for keeping at Utsunomiya University



  1. Proof of Nationality

  2. Official transcripts of the applicant’s academic record with proof of academic level, such as the academic ranking and GPA at the university.

  3. Certification of graduation issued by university from which you graduated most recently or certification of expected graduation issued by university from which you will graduate.

  4. Summary of master thesis

  5. Proof of language skill (such as TOEFL, TOEIC, JLPT, etc.)

6. Medical certificate
The documents above must be prepared in Japanese or English. If any documents prepared in other than Japanese or English, attach a Japanese translation to each document.
