Over time, the number of aspects, marksheets, OMR and marksheet templates and Individual Report Formats may grow to an unwieldy number. Trying to locate these elements in their respective browsers can entail scrolling through a long list, especially when the exact name of the element is unknown.
It is possible to create Categories in order to make it easier and quicker to view and select aspects, marksheets, OMR and marksheet templates and Individual Report Formats. This is achieved using Categories as a filter to reduce the number of items displayed.
You will need first to create Category Types (e.g. Departments, Language, Year Groups, etc). Each Category Type can then contain one or more dependent Categories.
For example, within the Department Category Type you might create English, Maths and Science Categories. Under the Year Groups Category Type you might create Year 7, Year 8 through to Year 13 Categories.
When, for example, a Year 7 Science marksheet is created you can associate it with both the Science and Year 7 Categories. When you subsequently open the Find Marksheet browser you can easily locate that marksheet by filtering your view using either or both of the Science and Year 7 Categories.
In addition to the Category Types and Categories you create, SIMS Assessment also maintains its own System Category Type. Within this Category Type are SIMS Assessment created Categories. The Imported Category identifies aspects, templates and Individual Reports that may have been imported into the module. The Key Stage Categories identify the appropriate Key Stage aspects.
You will also see that other modules (e.g. Examinations Organiser) can create their own Categories and Category Types.
You must have the permissions associated with the Assessment Co-ordinator role to be able to manage Categories (add, edit, delete, etc.). Users with the permissions associated with the Assessment Operator or Class/Registration Group Teacher role can view existing Categories only.
