Note: Reliable tractography measurements were determined as having either high test/retest consistency with intraclass correlation coefficient ≥ 0.8 or least detectable effect size ≤ TBI effect size, which indicating acceptable variance. The TBI effect sizes were estimated as the average percentages of change in group means over the CC and its four fiber regions. The effect sizes for between-subject comparisons were estimated contrasting the acute and chronic TBI group with the healthy subject group. The average values were 4 for FA, 5 for MD, 4 for mean length, 12 for fiber count, 14 for fiber volume, and 4 for fiber density. The effect sizes for within-subject comparisons were estimated from the changes in tractography measurements between patients’ acute and follow-up scans, and were 4 for FA, 5 for MD, 4 for mean length, 14 for fiber count, 13 for fiber volume, and 5 for fiber density.

Abbreviations: FA = fractional anisotropy; FC = fiber count; FD = fiber density; FV = fiber volume; MD = mean diffusivity; ML = mean length.
