Duquesne University (www.Duq.edu) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences. The Dean will be capable of providing academic and administrative leadership to a strong and established School of Health Sciences. The academic departments/programs in the School include Athletic Training, Health Management Systems, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Speech Language Pathology, and a Ph.D. Program in Rehabilitation Science. The School of Health Sciences began in1990 and now has nearly 1,000 students. U.S. News and World Report ranked the John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences No. 44 for occupational therapy, No. 64 for physical therapy and No. 69 for speech pathology for 2017.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief academic officer of the Rangos School of Health Sciences. The Dean assures the quality of all seven academic programs through direction of the programmatic chairs and 43 full-time faculty, is responsible for organizational planning and development, and participates as one of nine deans in policy formation for the University. The Dean is also responsible for fundraising and friend-raising; budget preparation and allocation of resources for the Rangos School of Health Sciences; faculty, staff and student recruitment; professional development of faculty and staff; evaluation of programs and personnel; fostering the use of the latest technology in clinical education; implementation of a robust interprofessional education agenda; and, in collaboration with the faculty, curriculum planning and development.
Candidates for this position should be successful scholars and teachers who are experienced in academic administration and leadership, possess an understanding of the academic process, and be committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Candidates must have a working knowledge of the healthcare industry and the professions represented in the School, be knowledgeable about, and willing to engage in fundraising for the University, maintain and expand opportunities for international education, and be an excellent communicator with a commitment to continuing the collegial spirit of the School. A candidate who is a creative, innovative and energetic leader who demonstrates an ability to work in an environment of expansion and aspiration would be desirable. In addition, the Dean must support the University's rich Catholic/Spiritan mission and traditions and be able to lead the School to fulfill this mission.
