Section 3 - Endotracheal (ETT) Strapping Neobar


Purpose


A method of securing an ETT (oral) to preventing movement, possible trauma and extubation

Procedure Equipment


  • Alcohol based hand rub (ABHR)

  • Skin protective wipe.

  • 1 cm wide leucoplast strip cut to approximately 5 cm long.

  • Select correctly fitting Neobar® by trial fit. (see directions for selecting correct size).

  • Resuscitation equipment Neopuff, Laerdal bag with correct mask size, resuscitation trolley



Management


  • Apply skin protective wipe to cheeks

  • Select appropriate size Neoba


Colour Coding


  • Purple: 600 grams or less.

  • Yellow: 600 800 grams.

  • White: 800 – 1200 grams.

  • Green: 1200 1500 grams.

  • Blue: 1500 2000 grams.

  • Peach: 2000 + (1)








NeoBar should be positioned across centre of mouth NeoBar and ET tube should not contact lips
Tape ET tube below platform to reduce pressure on palate






Be sure skin is clean and dry
Remove clear liners; apply tabs in front of ear on bone






Hold in place for at least 30 seconds






Using 1 cm brown tape
Wrap tape completely around ET tube first






Continue taping around both ET tube & Platform


Place baby into comfortable position following procedure as per SOP Developmental care”
